WhatsApp is rolling out a new beta version, 2.25.8.3, for Android users. This update includes an interesting change in the code that allows users to share music from Spotify via their WhatsApp status. This feature is not yet active,so it may take some time before it is indeed fully released.
Enhanced Music sharing Capabilities
Currently, users can add music to their status updates, but they must select from Meta’s licensed catalog. The new update will allow users to access Spotify’s extensive music library. This option will be available when sharing music from Spotify via WhatsApp, providing a new way to post updates beyond just chats.
How the Integration Will Work
A preview from WABetaInfo shows how this feature will look. It will resemble the way music is shared on Instagram Stories. Your status will include the song title, artist name, and album cover from Spotify’s catalog. Like Instagram, WhatsApp will implement a button that redirects users to Spotify to play the song. This allows the song to be opened directly in the streaming provider’s app.
The new option shall be offered when you want to share music from Spotify via WhatsApp. Sharing as a status update will then be a new way, which extends posting in chats.
