England Wheelchair Rugby League Ashes Series Set for Australia
England’s wheelchair rugby league team is set to tour Australia in October and November for a two-Test ashes series. The world champions will face the Wheelaroos, currently ranked fourth globally, on Oct. 30 and Nov. 2. Both matches will be held on the Gold Coast.
Prior to the ashes tests, England will participate in two warm-up matches against state teams. They will play New South Wales in sydney on Oct. 24 and Queensland on the Sunshine Coast on oct. 27. This four-match tour marks England’s first visit to Australia since 2019.
In their last encounter, England defeated Australia 38-8 at the Copper Box in London during their opening match of the 2022 World Cup, which England ultimately won. Their previous tour to Australia in 2019 saw them secure a series victory with wins of 84-28 in Sydney and 58-20 in wollongong.
“We are excited to have confirmation of an Ashes Tour at the end of the year,” said Martin Coyd,general manager of England wheelchair rugby league. “It will be a notable event in its own right, as playing Australia on their own territory is always a major challenge, and one that our England players will relish.”
In 2024, England played three matches, including a 66-33 victory against France in Wigan in October. In November, they traveled to France, where they defeated Spain 58-28 before losing 32-28 to France.
