The Chicago White Sox are hoping that ‌Edgar Quero and Kyle Teel, a pair of young ⁢catchers, will solidify the team’s catching position for years to come. General Manager Chris Getz believes the catching position is now a strength for the organization.

Quero, 22, and Teel, 23, both ranked among MLB Pipeline’s ‍top catching prospects. They began ‌the season at Triple-A before Quero’s April debut.Teel ⁤joined ⁢him on June 6, taking over‌ from Korey Lee.

“The catching position is what we feel like⁣ is a strength of the organization considering that we have two catchers at the ‌major league-level and a catcher like Korey at Triple A,” ⁢Getz told reporters. “(In Teel and Quero), you’re talking about a young tandem that’s probably one of the ‍strongest in baseball.”

The White Sox last had a young catcher with staying power ‍in Ron Karkovice, who took over in the early 1990s. As then, the team has relied⁣ on veterans, with A.J. Pierzynski and Yasmani Grandal being the only consistent exceptions.

Getz and his predecessor, Rick‍ Hahn, focused on acquiring catching prospects in trades. Quero came from the Angels in the Lucas Giolito deal, while Teel arrived from the Red Sox in exchange for Garrett Crochet.

Quero, ‍a switch-hitter signed out of Cuba, and Teel, ⁤a first-round pick with a strong baseball pedigree, provide the White Sox‌ with financial predictability. ‌Quero will be‌ arbitration-eligible after 2027, and Teel likely after 2028. The team controls both players through 2031.

Quero impressed early in the Angels’ system, earning california League MVP ‌honors. Jim Callis of MLB.com praised Quero’s mature approach and ability to avoid strikeouts.

While ‌Quero’s offensive ⁤polish is evident, he needs to improve his receiving and pitch-framing skills. teel, a left-handed hitter, is considered a well-rounded player with‍ the potential to be a fantasy baseball star, according to Baseball Prospectus.

Teel’s hitting surged in May,posting ⁢an .886 OPS with eight home runs at Triple-A Charlotte. He also demonstrates solid defense, throwing out a runner in his White Sox debut.

“you’re looking at a fairly‍ well-rounded player,” Getz said. “Obviously as he transitions to the major-league level, there’s always going to be adjustments. We feel he’s in a good ‌spot.”

Both Teel and Quero have extraordinary minor-league records. quero slashed .282/.399/.450‍ with 45 home ⁣runs, while Teel hit .300/.401/.456 with 23 home runs and 22 stolen bases.

The White Sox plan to split playing time‌ between Teel and Quero. Quero’s strong numbers against left-handed pitching suggest ⁣a potential platoon. Manager‌ will Venable may also use Teel as ⁤a designated hitter to maximize their playing ⁣time.

Teel⁢ emphasized his good relationship with Quero. “We have a good relationship,” he told Sox Machine. “All that⁤ stuff helps us play⁣ better, and what we really care about overall is how can we both help the team win.”

The White Sox are optimistic about developing two young catchers simultaneously, a ‍positive step after a challenging season.

What’s next

The White Sox will continue to evaluate the Kyle Teel, Edgar quero catching⁣ tandem as they gain experience at the major league level, hoping they become cornerstones of the franchise’s future.
