WHO Adopts Malaysia’s Landmark Resolution on Lung Health

The World Health Organization (WHO) has officially adopted a resolution on lung health spearheaded by Malaysia during the 78th World Health assembly (WHA78) in geneva, Switzerland.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad celebrated the resolution’s adoption as a historic achievement, underscoring Malaysia’s growing influence in global health leadership. He communicated his sentiments via a recent social media post after returning from Geneva.
During the WHA78, Dzulkefly also represented Malaysia as the host of a side event focused on advancing oral health within Universal Health Coverage (UHC). The event underscored malaysia’s commitment to extensive healthcare solutions.
The Health Minister engaged in a series of strategic discussions with key international health bodies, including Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, Rare Disease international (RDI), Union for International cancer Control (UICC), and Medicines Patent Pool (MPP). These meetings aimed to foster collaboration and address pressing global health challenges, including lung health.
Dzulkefly led the Malaysian delegation at the WHA78 in Geneva from May 18-22. bilateral meetings were conducted with health representatives from Bangladesh, Egypt, Iran, Palestine, Brunei, and Norway, with the goal of strengthening international health cooperation.
Malaysia further emphasized its dedication to vaccine equity, pandemic preparedness, and the One Health agenda on a regional scale, reinforcing its commitment to global health security.
“Every step and exchange in geneva brings a clear message — Malaysia is not only following the global health trend,but also leading,driving and shaping a common direction,” Dzulkefly said.
