Indonesia’s Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway, known as Whoosh, has handled more than 15 million passenger trips as of April 14, 2026, according to the operator PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC).
The railway has recorded a peak daily passenger ridership of 26,770, with the highest occupancy rate reaching 99.64 percent. KCIC reported that the project has transitioned from its initial post-launch stage into a phase of rapid growth after total ridership surpassed 10 million.
International Travel and Regional Impact
The operator noted a continuing improvement in passenger composition, specifically highlighting a rise in international travelers. More than 760,000 foreign traveler trips have been served by the railway, which KCIC stated underscores the system’s role in boosting tourism and facilitating regional exchanges.
The railway has significantly reduced travel time between cities along its route. The service has shortened the trip between Jakarta and Bandung from more than three hours to 46 minutes, which the company said has enhanced coordinated development and regional connectivity.
Technical Specifications and Operations
Launched on October 17, 2023, the 142.3-kilometer railway operates at a maximum speed of 350 kilometers per hour. The project was jointly built by China and Indonesia.

To meet rising demand, the operation team expanded the frequency of train services. Daily departures increased from 14 during the initial stage to as many as 62 during peak periods.
The Chinese-Indonesian team implemented advanced high-speed rail safety management systems from China, which were adapted to local Indonesian conditions, including seismic activity and heavy rainfall.
Growth and Safety Milestones
The railway’s ridership has shown steady growth since its inception. On June 25, 2025, the system had transported more than 10 million passengers. By its second anniversary on October 17, 2025, the total number of passengers safely transported exceeded 12 million.
As of October 17, 2025, the China State Railway Group reported that the 142.3-kilometer line had logged more than 5.65 million kilometers of safe operation.
Transport efficiency, service standards and brand recognition have all improved.
