Two decades after the original film, Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci have reunited for The Devil Wears Prada 2. The sequel was released in UK cinemas on May 1, 2026.
Directed by David Frankel, the comedy drama follows Andy Sachs as she returns to Runway magazine in the role of a senior editor. In this new chapter, she encounters Miranda, Nigel Kipling, and her former colleague Emily, who has since become a senior executive at Dior.
Despite the return of the core ensemble, the absence of Adrian Grenier, who portrayed Andy’s boyfriend Nate in the 2006 original, is a notable omission. In the first film, Andy and Nate parted ways when he moved to Boston to pursue a career as a sous-chef.
Production constraints and the missing cameo
Director David Frankel has addressed why Nate does not appear in the sequel. While he expressed a desire to include the character in a small capacity, logistical constraints prevented the appearance from happening.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Frankel stated that he had an idea about sneaking him into a cameo, and it was just too late in our production schedule to make it happen.
Adrian Grenier on Nate’s absence
Adrian Grenier has spoken about not being asked back for The Devil Wears Prada 2, describing the experience as a disappointment
. However, he acknowledged that the character of Nate has become a controversial figure among viewers due to the toxic nature of his relationship with Andy.
We’re all fans of the movie, whether or not we were in it. Obviously, it was a disappointment that I didn’t get the call to be in the sequel. But I also understand there was some backlash with Nate, the character, so that might have something to do with it.

Grenier has since leaned into the character’s unpopularity with a sense of humor. In a Starbucks advertisement released earlier this year, the actor poked fun at his omission from the sequel.
In the clip, Grenier is seen discussing Nate’s absence with a barista, remarking: Ok, so he wasn’t perfect. So let’s leave Nate in 2006 and keep this good energy going.
