Wichita State’s Jayson Jones homered to deep left field for his 11th home run of the season, driving in a run during the Shockers’ game against Rice on April 25, 2026.

The solo shot traveled 413 feet and came with an 0-1 count in the fifth inning, contributing to Wichita State’s offensive effort in the American Conference matchup.

Jones, a senior infielder listed at 6-foot-3 and 225 pounds, has been a consistent power threat for the Shockers this season, having previously extended his hitting streak to 20 games with an RBI single against Memphis on March 28.

His performance against Rice continued a strong stretch at the plate, building on a February sweep of Northern Colorado where he hit four home runs in four games and drove in 12 RBIs.

Jones began his college career at Oklahoma State, where he played in 50 games during the 2025 season, batting .217 with a .310 on-base percentage and .376 slugging percentage, including nine doubles and five home runs.

He transferred to Wichita State for the 2026 season and has quickly become a key contributor in the middle of the Shockers’ lineup, playing both third base and the outfield as needed.

Prior to the game against Rice, Jones had accumulated 10 home runs on the season, making the April 25 blast his 11th and further solidifying his role as one of the team’s primary run producers.
