The Arlington Museum of Art will showcase a new exhibition titled “Wicked Threads: The Artistry of Costume in Oz” from January 17 to April 27, 2025. This exhibition will display costumes, props, and images from the film adaptation of the musical Wicked.
The exhibition will include iconic items such as Glinda’s “bubble” dress and Elphaba’s “Defying Gravity” costume. All pieces are provided by NBCUniversal Archives & Collections and highlight over 20 years of the beloved Broadway show.
Costume designer Paul Tazewell, known for his work on five productions of The Wiz, created the costumes for the film. AMA Director Kendall Quirk expressed excitement for the exhibition, stating it highlights the artistry of costume design in filmmaking.
The film Wicked earned over $110 million in its opening weekend. It tells the story of the unlikely friendship between Elphaba, who becomes the Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda, who becomes Glinda the Good.
Visitors can enjoy this exhibition for free at the Arlington Museum of Art, with no tickets required for entry.
