Wild About the Moon: Guangzhou’s Mid-Autumn Festival Brings Families and Animals Together
Mid-Autumn Festival in Guangdong: A Joyful Encounter with Animal Friends
On the afternoon of September 16, the sun shone brightly as hundreds of families from China and abroad gathered in Guangzhou for a unique Mid-Autumn Festival celebration. The event, “Meet in Guangdong during the Mid-Autumn Festival in Suiyue,” brought people together at Chimelong Safari Park for an unforgettable experience with their animal friends.
As visitors strolled through the park, they were treated to a diverse array of animals, including Asian elephants, giraffes, white rhinos, African lions, and kangaroos. The sky was filled with the vibrant colors of American scarlet ibises and snow-white little egrets, creating a breathtaking spectacle.

Families rode on the sightseeing train, listening intently to the staff’s explanations and capturing memories with their mobile phones and cameras. The excitement was palpable, with bursts of exclamations and laughter throughout the journey.
Piniel’s family from Tanzania was among the visitors, and they were thrilled to see so many animals up close. “This is our first time to Chimelong Safari Park. We saw a lot of animals, especially when we took the small train. We saw many animals on the African grasslands. This reminded us of the scenes we saw in our hometown of Tanzania. We felt very familiar and happy,” they shared.

Piniel’s wife, Wokuheleza, praised Guangzhou’s food and architecture, saying, “I think Cantonese dim sum is particularly delicious, especially the shrimp dumplings and glutinous rice chicken, which are delicious and left a deep impression on me! The Guangzhou Tower and Haixin Bridge are also great.”
Overseas Chinese Lin Fu, who had visited the park many years ago, was impressed by the expansion of the park and its suitability for educational and research activities. “I saw a lot of animals here, especially many children who came to visit and play, they were very enthusiastic. I think the work of protecting animals here is very good,” he said.

Lin Fu plans to share his experience with his grandson, saying, “I will show these videos to my grandson so that he can learn about animals. I hope to have the opportunity to bring my family back so that they can see these animal friends up close. I am also trying to exert my power as an overseas Chinese to spread the Guangzhou trip and Chinese culture overseas.”
The event was a heartwarming celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival, bringing people together to appreciate the beauty of nature and the importance of conservation.
