Wild About Transformation: Daqingshan Wildlife Park’s Leap from Traffic to Tourism Goldmine

Get up close with wild animals, be a pet keeper, attend a panda birthday party, and more at the Daqingshan Wildlife Park in Hohhot.
Located in the northern suburbs of Hohhot City, the Daqingshan Wildlife Park has become a popular destination for families and animal lovers alike. Since May this year, the park has undergone significant improvements, enriching its facilities and services to provide a distinctive, safe, and comfortable experience for visitors.
According to Wang Chi, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and general manager of Hohhot Culture and Tourism Investment Group Co., Ltd., the park has seen a significant increase in tourists and revenue. “In August this year, the number of tourists, excluding those who meet the free policy, reached 170,000, and the operating income reached 3.28 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 73% and 98% respectively.”
A Fun-Filled Experience for All Ages
Upon entering the park, visitors are greeted by a panda birthday party landscape, where they can take photos with their loved ones. The park also offers interactive experiences, such as feeding white swans by the artificial lake and getting up close with raccoons through transparent windows.
Citizens Li Min and Zhang Yu shared their experiences at the park, praising the rich species of animals and the convenience of the self-driving sightseeing cars. “I like to bring my children here. There are rich species of animals and many things to do. My children especially like the giant pandas Xixi and Saner,” said Li Min.
A Market-Oriented Reform Plan
In May this year, the Daqingshan Wildlife Park was transferred from Hohhot Garden Management Center to Hohhot Cultural Tourism Investment Group, and changed from government administrative management to market-oriented operation. A market-oriented reform plan was established to improve quality and enrich capacity, with the goal of doubling economic benefits.
Wang Chi explained that the park has innovated management methods and proposed the management idea of ’animal lovers running the zoo’. A closed-loop management system and operation assessment system have been formulated for the introduction, management, feeding, treatment, display, and elderly care of animals.
Improving the Visitor Experience
The park has taken several steps to improve the visitor experience, including dividing the theme area reasonably, enriching the interaction of tourists, carrying out environmental improvement, and improving service quality.
The park has also established a self-media publicity and promotion mechanism, live-broadcasting animal life through media public accounts, short video platforms, and more. This has increased the fun of the public’s online experience and attracted more tourists to the park.
A Bright Future Ahead
Wang Chi expressed confidence in the future of Daqingshan Wildlife Park, stating that the park will continue to work hard to improve quality and enrich the environment. The park aims to build a new cultural tourism brand for the entire region, with continuous activities and cultural performances throughout the year.
At the Beast Theater, located halfway up the mountain on the northwest side of the park, visitors can look forward to exciting performances, including flying bird shows, equestrian shows, and puppet shows.
