Deontay Wilder Back in Win Column With ⁣Herndon Victory

WICHITA, Kan. ‍- Deontay Wilder returned to form Friday night, stopping Tyrrell Herndon in the seventh round of thier heavyweight bout.⁣ The former WBC champion, seeking to reignite his ⁢career‍ after losing four of his previous five fights,⁢ showed flashes of his old self in wichita.

Wilder (primary_keyword) displayed early aggression, pressing Herndon (secondary_keyword_1) with jabs in⁢ the‍ opening round. Herndon, mostly evasive, managed to avoid⁤ significant damage. In ⁤the second, wilder landed a cuffing left ‍hook, sending Herndon to⁣ the canvas for the first knockdown.

Herndon (secondary_keyword_1) attempted to counter with power punches as the fight progressed, briefly unsettling Wilder. Though, Wilder’s power ultimately proved too much. In Round 6, Wilder intensified his attack, trapping Herndon against⁤ the ropes until the referee intervened, ruling it a second knockdown.

Wilder continued his assault in the ⁢seventh.⁣ A straight ⁤right hand wobbled Herndon, prompting⁣ the referee to halt the fight at 2:16 of the round. The stoppage appeared premature, but Herndon seemed unlikely to ‍mount a comeback.

“It felt great,” Wilder said afterward. ⁤”This is a new beginning for me.”

Nelson Lopez Jr., Wilder’s promoter, outlined a three-fight plan, ⁤perhaps leading to a clash with Anthony Joshua ⁢(secondary_keyword_2). However, Wilder’s performance against Herndon, ‍who has suffered quick losses⁣ to less-regarded opponents, raises questions about‍ his readiness‍ for top-tier competition.

The fact that Wilder couldn’t replicate ⁤the quick finishes⁢ that others had against Herndon may fuel concerns about his future in the heavyweight⁤ division.
