Wilfried Nancy Named 2024 Sigi Schmid MLS Coach of the Year
Wilfried Nancy is the 2024 Sigi Schmid MLS Coach of the Year. He achieved this honor after an impressive season with the Columbus Crew. Nancy led the Crew to a record-setting year, achieving 66 points, scoring 72 goals, and tying the club’s record with 19 wins. The team finished the regular season with the best goal differential in the league at +32 and ranked second in the Supporters’ Shield standings, their best since 2009.
In 2024, Columbus Crew joined Inter Miami CF as the only teams to win at least nine games both at home and on the road. They were also the first team since the Philadelphia Union in 2022 to score 70 goals while allowing 40 or fewer in a season.
Outside of the MLS, Nancy guided the Crew to the Leagues Cup title with a 3-1 win over LAFC, earning a spot in the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup. The team also reached the final of the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup after defeating CF Monterrey and Tigres UANL.
Nancy is the first Crew coach to win this award since Sigi Schmid in 2008. He has been a finalist for Coach of the Year for the past three seasons. Nancy joined the Crew in December 2022 after coaching CF Montréal from 2021 to 2022.
The Coach of the Year award is determined by votes from MLS club technical staff, media, and current MLS players. Nancy surpassed fellow finalists Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino of Inter Miami CF and Chris Armas of the Colorado Rapids.
