Russia and India Set to Take to the Skies: Joint Su-30 Fighter Jet Production on the Horizon

In addition, the Hizir Reis submarine also began navigation trials and the YAKIT 2-3-4 refueling vessels were put into operation to enhance the navy’s logistics support capabilities.

According to President Erdogan, Türkiye aims to put all of the above submarines into service by 2029. He also mentioned building a self-sufficient defense industry, capable of designing and manufacturing advanced military weapons, including submarines and other important naval platforms.

TCG Piri Reis, designation S-330, is a Reis-class submarine based on the German Type-214TN submarine. Capable of operating in coastal waters as well as on open ocean patrols, the ship can perform anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) and special forces operations.

Piri Reis incorporates air-independent propulsion (AIP) technology, allowing the submarine to operate more quietly and stay submerged longer than conventional diesel-electric submarines.

The Reis-class submarines use advanced fuel cell technology and large-capacity batteries, allowing them to operate for long periods without having to surface frequently for air. They were built at Turkey’s Golcuk Naval Shipyard in cooperation with ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems.

The ship is 68.35m long, displaces 1,850 tonnes and has a crew of 40. The Reis class is equipped with a variety of weapons systems, including Akya heavyweight torpedoes, Atmaca anti-ship missiles and mines. In addition, the ship will also be equipped with Gezgin cruise missiles, which are currently under development.

* Ukraine successfully tested ballistic missile for the first time

At the “Ukraine 2024 Independence” forum, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the successful test of the first domestically produced ballistic missile.

Mr. Zelensky shared that the missile test was successful, marking a new step in Ukraine’s efforts to strengthen its military capabilities. However, he did not disclose details about the missile due to the confidentiality of the project. The announcement was made shortly after the news that Ukraine had put into combat a new long-range missile/UAV called Palianytsia. In late 2023, the Ministry of Defense announced that Ukraine had prospects for producing missiles with a range of 1,000km and that the project was fully funded by the state budget and implemented by Ukrainian industry.

Currently, Ukraine possesses the Soviet-era Tochka tactical ballistic missile, which has a range of 120km but is less accurate. Ukraine has also developed the Hrim-2, also known as the Grim-2, Grom-2 or OTRK Sapsan. This short-range ballistic missile system was developed to replace the Tochka-U missile currently in service. In its export version, the Hrim-2 can engage individual and fixed group targets at ranges from 50km to 280km. However, due to Ukraine’s military needs, the system’s range has been extended to 700km, a significant increase from the previous range of 450km to 500km.
