Aaron Civale and Aaron Ashby combined for a two-hitter and Venezuela’s William Contreras stole the plate as the Milwaukee Brewers beat the San Francisco Giants 6-0 yesterday.
The Brewers, leaders of the National League Central, won two of three in the series against the Giants. They are another game and a half ahead of the Chicago Cubs, for the division’s largest margin in the majors.
Garrett Mitchell homered for the Brewers, and Venezuelan Jackson Chourio finished the afternoon 1-for-4 with a double, two RBIs, a run scored and a walk, leaving his batting average at 0.271 this season.
In his last 15 games, Chourio is hitting .288, with 17 hits, two home runs, 12 RBI, eight runs scored and three walks in 59 visits to the batter’s box.
Contreras went 2 for 3 and produced a run, as well as stole a base in the third inning.
Civale (5-8) went seven innings for his longest outing of the season. He struck out seven and allowed just two hits with two walks – his third quality outing in his last four appearances.
