William J. (Paz) Haynes III, a partner at Spencer Fane, served as a presenter for the Nashville Bar Association’s (NBA) Annual Free Historical CLE on May 12, 2026. During the event, Haynes explored the history of Nashville sit-ins.
Haynes currently serves as the Public Trustee for Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County, Tennessee. In this capacity, he is responsible for the oversight, administration, and management of assets held in guardianships, conservatorships, estates, and trusts across several states, including testamentary and inter vivos trusts.
Beyond his role as Public Trustee, Haynes maintains a legal practice focusing on health care law and labor and employment law. His work involves representing health care providers and physicians in business arrangements and contract negotiations, as well as providing legal advice on operational matters. He also represents clients before administrative agencies and regulatory boards, such as the Board of Medical Examiners.
Haynes has held multiple leadership positions within the legal community in Tennessee. He has served as the president of the Napier-Looby Bar Foundation and the Napier-Looby Bar Association. He has served as the secretary of the Tennessee Bar Association.
His professional recognitions include being named a fellow of both the Tennessee Bar Association and the Nashville Bar Association. He has also served on the board of the Nashville Bar Association.
In the public sector, Haynes was appointed to the board of the Tennessee Registry of Election Finance in 2017. He continued to serve on that board after acting as its chairman from 2019 to 2020.
