Microsoft Tests Copilot Integration Directly ⁢Into File Explorer

Microsoft is testing a new feature that could⁢ bring ⁤Copilot directly⁢ into Windows 11’s File Explorer, streamlining access to⁣ AI-powered file management. Windows Insider testers recently ⁢discovered a hidden button within Insider ⁤builds that appears ‌linked to Copilot functionality, as first reported‌ by Ghacks.net.

Currently, the button is inactive⁣ adn not visible ⁤to ‌all users. However, ⁣its⁤ placement suggests Microsoft ⁣intends to integrate Copilot more tightly into File Explorer, rather than requiring users to open the standalone Copilot app.

If enabled in future ‍builds, the button could allow users to use natural language to:

  • Locate specific files
  • Identify ‌document types
  • Navigate large folders

This woudl allow users to complete these tasks without leaving ‍the File⁣ Explorer interface.

copilot is already ⁢partially integrated‍ into⁤ File Explorer via the right-click‍ context menu. Selecting “Ask Copilot” ⁣from the context menu launches ⁤the ‍Copilot‌ app and provides the selected file as context. The newly discovered button appears designed to simplify this process by embedding AI interaction directly within ⁢File Explorer.

File Explorer search has ‍long been a point of contention for Windows users. This integration could ⁢represent a⁤ significant advancement in file finding and management.
