Microsoft has acknowledged a new problem stemming from the June 2025 security updates. The updates are causing the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) service to freeze on some Windows Server systems,impacting network configurations.
The DHCP server service is crucial for automating IP address assignments and other network settings. This automation reduces administrative overhead and ensures reliable IP configurations across Windows networks.The new DHCP known issue prevents unicast IP address renewals from applying correctly across network devices.
“The DHCP Server service might intermittently stop responding after installing this security update. This issue affects IP renewal for clients,” Microsoft saeid in updates to security advisories issued during this month’s Patch tuesday.
Microsoft is actively working on a fix. “We are working on releasing a resolution in the coming days and will provide more information when it is indeed available,” the company added.
This month’s Patch Tuesday also addressed a seperate Windows Server issue that triggered app or service failures. This earlier problem caused some Windows Server 2025 domain controllers to become unreachable after restarts.
