Weather Warnings Issued for North Island
A series of fronts moving within a strong westerly flow are forecast to bring west to southwest gales to New Zealand over the weekend, according to MetService.
An orange-level strong wind warning is in effect for Auckland,Great Barrier Island,and the Coromandel Peninsula starting Sunday afternoon. MetService warns of severe gale-force southwesterly winds gusting up to 120 km/h in exposed areas, perhaps causing damage to trees, powerlines, and unsecured structures. driving conditions may also be hazardous, notably for high-sided vehicles and motorcycles.
Strong wind watches have also been issued for Northland and waikato north of Hamilton on Sunday, and for Hawke’s Bay south of Hastings, the Tararua District, and Southland south of Gore, Clutha, and Dunedin on Monday.
Snowfall Warnings for South Island Passes
Several road snowfall warnings are also currently in place. Rain is expected to transition to snow on Crown Range Road and Lindis Pass beginning at 5:00 PM on Saturday.
Snow showers have already commenced on Milford Road, affecting areas down to approximately 700 meters in elevation.
