In a significant step towards implementing Open Skies policy, the government has approved the expansion of low-cost Colombian airline Wingo’s operations in Argentina. This move adds international flights from three cities without transiting through Buenos Aires.
The official gazette, Boletín Oficial, published on Tuesday, Disposición 4/2025, outlined the new routes. Wingo, a subsidiary of Copa Airlines, will launch flights from Córdoba, Mendoza, and Rosario to Colombian destinations Medellín, Cartagena, Cali, Barranquilla, and San Andrés, as well as Pereira and Bucaramanga.
Hernán Adrián Gómez, director of the Administración Nacional de Aviación Civil (ANAC), signed the resolution emphasizing principles of "economy, simplicity, and efficiency" that guided the decision.
Wingo, launched in 2016 and based in Bogotá, operates a fleet of nine Boeing 737-800 Next Generation aircraft, each with a capacity of 186 passengers in a single class. With the addition of these Argentine cities, Wingo will serve eight destinations in Argentina, along with several cities in Colombia, Panama, Aruba, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Peru, Venezuela, and Punta Cana.
Secretario de Transporte Franco Mogetta hailed the decision, stating, "These new international destinations enhance travel options for passengers, bolster regional connectivity, and boost aeronautical competitiveness, in line with President Javier Milei’s vision."
