Florian Wirtz, Liverpool’s newest acquisition, said his move to the club felt like the right step in his career. The £116.5 million transfer from Bayer Leverkusen makes him the second major signing for Liverpool this summer, following Jeremie Frimpong.
The 22-year-old midfielder told liverpoolfc.com that he viewed this as the ideal moment to venture beyond German football. He emphasized Liverpool’s standing among the elite.”I just thought that it was the right point in my career to make the next step and of course I wanted to get to a club that is from the top three in the world, and in my opinion Liverpool was one of them,” Wirtz said.
Wirtz acknowledged the weight of the decision, given his commitment to the German national team. Though, conversations with Liverpool’s manager, Arne Slot, and Richard Hughes, eased his concerns. “Every time I spoke to one of the [people from] the club I felt like, ‘this is the place I want to be’ and so in the end I was really 100 per cent convinced I want to join Liverpool and it was the best choice,” he said.
