Wisconsin Woman Stars in ‘Wicked’ Film
The film adaptation of the Broadway musical “Wicked” is set to make waves with projected sales of about $100 million. Among its stars is Marissa Bode, a native of Mazomanie, Wisconsin, who plays the role of Nessarose.
Local students and former staff from her high school gathered for a special showing of the film last Saturday.
Marissa’s father, Sean Bode, shared a memorable story about her casting. While director John Chu was speaking with Marissa, he opened the door to find Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. They asked Marissa if she would like to take on the role of Nessarose.
Notably, Marissa is the first person with a disability to portray this character in the show’s history. This milestone adds an important layer to the film, showcasing diversity and representation on screen.
