Wisconsin Swim & Dive at Big Ten Championships: Live Updates & Preview

February 25, 2026 David Thompson - Sports Editor Sports

MADISON, Wis. — The No. 24 Wisconsin men’s swim and dive team begins its pursuit of a Big Ten Championship today at the Soderholm Family Aquatic Center, hosting the conference’s best from Wednesday, February 25 through February 28. The Badgers are aiming to improve upon last year’s sixth-place finish and challenge the dominance of Indiana, which has claimed the conference title for the past four seasons.

The championship meet kicks off with relay events this evening at 4:00 p.m. CT. The remaining days will follow a consistent schedule: preliminaries starting at 10:00 a.m. And finals at 5:30 p.m.

Competitive Landscape

Wisconsin enters the competition ranked sixth among Big Ten teams, according to the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association (CSCAA) poll. The Badgers face a challenging field, headlined by No. 3 Indiana. Ohio State (11th), Michigan State (12th), USC (15th), and Northwestern (19th) also appear in the Top 25, promising a highly competitive week of racing.

Looking Back at 2025

Last year’s Big Ten Championships saw the Wisconsin men secure sixth place with a total of 735 points. Indiana dominated the meet, accumulating 1579 points for their fourth consecutive championship. Michigan and Ohio State completed the podium, finishing with 1148 and 1100 points, respectively. A standout performance for the Badgers came from the 200-meter freestyle relay team comprised of Taiko Torepe-Ormsby, Cooper Scharff, Ben Wiegand, and Chris Morris, who earned a silver medal and set a new school record.

Badgers to Watch

Senior Dominik Mark Torok leads the Wisconsin contingent with a top-three time in the 200-meter butterfly within the Big Ten this season. He established a personal best and a new school record in the event at the Texas Invitational, clocking in at 1:40.07. Torok also holds the fifth-fastest time in the 400-meter individual medley at 3:40.21.

Ben Wiegand, also a senior, is a key contender in the sprint freestyle and breaststroke events. He currently holds the school record in the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 51.83 and is seventh in the 50-meter freestyle at 19.39. Sophomore Yoav Romano is positioned to score well in the distance events, ranking fourth in the 1650-meter freestyle (14:54.42) and sixth in the 500-meter freestyle (4:14.00). Freshman Enzo Solitario is also making waves, currently sitting sixth in the 200 free in 1:33.16.

Nathan Welker and Adam Graham are expected to contribute in the backstroke events, holding eighth-place times of 45.79 in the 100-meter backstroke and 1:41.07 in the 200-meter backstroke, respectively.

Beyond the Big Ten: NCAA Championships

The Big Ten Championships serve as a crucial stepping stone towards the NCAA Championships, scheduled for March 25-28 in Atlanta, Georgia. Last year, Wisconsin sent nine swimmers and divers to the NCAA meet, including Torok, Wiegand, Romano, Luukas Vainio, Charlie Jones, and Cooper Scharff. The performance at the Big Ten Championships will determine which Badgers earn a trip to compete on the national stage.
