Madison, WI – Wisconsin Badgers wide receiver Trech Kekahuna has announced his decision to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal, according to ESPN. The sophomore will have three years of eligibility remaining.
Kekahuna saw significant playing time this season, his second with the Badgers. he hauled in 25 passes for 339 yards and two touchdowns, showcasing his potential as a playmaker. His performance included appearances in five games in 2023, including the bowl game, meaning he could still redshirt this season as bowl games no longer count towards the four-game limit.
Kekahuna’s freshman year in 2022 saw him record four receptions.
His departure comes after two seasons where the Wisconsin offense struggled to find consistency. Issues with implementing a new offensive scheme and persistent quarterback injuries hampered the Badgers’ ability to fully utilize Kekahuna’s talents.
Kekahuna’s decision follows the recent firing of offensive coordinator Phil Longo. Head Coach Luke Fickell addressed Longo’s dismissal in a press conference,stating that the move was necessary for the program’s future.
“This is never something I ever, ever envisioned doing or wanted to do and especially doing it when there’s still games to be played in a season,” Fickell said. “But felt like, for all involved and, most importantly, for our program and the kids in that locker room, what we needed to do right now was to move forward.”
