Wishy has released their album, Nature’s Pill, following up their debut Triple Seven, Consequence reported. The band, previously named as a CoSign artist, leans further into pop sensibilities, late-1990s alternative rock influences, and early-2000s pop-punk on the release, consciously mining both adolescent angst and childhood joy in a sound heavily inspired by the hybrid pop-rock that Michelle Branch boasted around that time.
Wishy Pairs Nature’s Pill Tracks With SpongeBob SquarePants Characters
Band member Kevin Krauter structured the album’s track-by-track breakdown by assigning a distinct SpongeBob SquarePants character to each song on the record, according to Consequence. The opening track, “All the Rage,” matches the character SpongeBob due to its high energy and lyrical contradictions. Nina Pitchkites and Krauter harmonize on the track’s refrain, singing So fuck doing the dishes/ Fuck these clothes on my floor/ I don’t care anymore, now that you’re gone,
as noted by Consequence. Additional character matches include Squidward for the ego-driven track “Covergirl,” Sandy for the bold and confident song “Sensational,” Karen the Computer Wife for “Shift,” and Plankton for the short, attitude-driven track “You’re Not Serious.” The tracklist continues with Mrs. Puff representing “Mona Lisa,” Pearl for “Lovesick,” Old Man Jenkins for “Freak 99,” The Flying Dutchman for “Headscratcher,” Gary for “Blitz,” Grandma SquarePants for “Kiss Kiss Kiss,” and Patrick for the song “Party World,” as outlined in the Consequence breakdown.
Lyrics Detail Nostalgic Pop-Rock Themes
The lead track sets a weary domestic scene with lines such as Sunday I waste away/ You know it’s easy/ Gas light keeps screaming/ That shit’s empty,
according to the lyrics. The opening track also features verses reflecting on waking up to a half-remembered dream before an alarm tells the narrator to shut up, running from lust, losing count of ways to say tomorrow won’t be more of the same, and asking how many times love will swallow a life while sorrow comes cheaply disguised. The second track, “Covergirl,” layers references to rhinestones, fate, and running from lust over driving instrumentation, alongside lines about completing a circle that never ends and wanting someone back in a bed. The fourth track also mentions a Friday party, shifting into the sweet of life, and a beats pill on the dashboard.
