Condolences for Grand Imam’s Sister
On November 13, 2024, the sister of Grand Imam Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb passed away at the age of 90. Al-Azhar University announced its condolences to the Al-Tayeb family during this time of loss.
The Grand Imam cut his visit to Azerbaijan short to return home for the funeral, which took place in Al-Tayeb Square, Qurna City, Luxor Governorate. Mourners from Egypt and beyond attended without a formal ceremony.
Social media users shared images from the event, highlighting its simplicity compared to typical funerals.
An official delegation sent by Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, offered condolences to the Grand Imam, expressing solidarity with his family.
Furthermore, Shukr Pashazadeh, the religious leader of Azerbaijan, paid his respects at the airport before leaving Baku. Indonesia’s ambassador to Egypt also led a delegation to express condolences in Luxor.
Lebanon’s Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, contacted the Grand Imam to offer his sympathy, wishing comfort and patience for the family.
