updated June 15, 2025
Wizards of the Coast, a division of Hasbro, has partnered with Giant Skull, a studio established by former Star wars Jedi: Survivor director Stig Asmussen, to develop a new single-player action adventure game set in the Dungeons & Dragons universe. The declaration marks a significant step for both companies in their gaming ambitions.
John Hight, president of Wizards of the Coast and Digital Gaming at Hasbro, said the company aims to release a couple of premium games each year under the Wizards label. He added that Asmussen was among the first people he contacted upon taking the job, seeking to collaborate with top-tier developers.
Asmussen, formerly of Respawn Entertainment and known for his work on the God of War series, launched Giant Skull in September 2023. According to Asmussen, discussions with Hight began even before the studio’s inception, with Hight offering insights and support. The collaboration solidified after Hight visited Giant Skull and reviewed their work.

The Dungeons & Dragons game is currently in progress for PC and consoles, with more details expected to be revealed later. Hight said he was impressed with Giant Skull’s vision and the potential for a strong partnership.
Asmussen said that after Hight inquired about developing a game based on one of Wizards’ IPs, Dungeons & Dragons emerged as a natural fit, aligning with the passions of many on his team. A visit to Wizards’ headquarters in Renton, Washington, further solidified the decision, with Asmussen noting the collaborative spirit and the opportunity to contribute to the iconic franchise.
Giant Skull’s background in action-adventure RPGs, particularly their work on melee combat and traversal systems, meshed well with the Dungeons & Dragons universe, according to Asmussen.
Hight emphasized the importance of delivering a fun,well-executed game with compelling storytelling. He expressed confidence in Giant Skull’s ability to meet these expectations, citing their track record in creating engaging action titles.
“If you want to build one of the best games out there, you talk to one of the best developers,” Hight said.
“It’s about, like john said, make a good game. You make a game that feels good. You make a game that’s got a soul,” Asmussen said.
