Woman Alleges Ex-Partner Is Using Daughter to Reconnect with Boyfriend

A woman in Dublin has secured a protection order against her former partner after alleging he used their teenage daughter to attempt to reconcile with his ex-boyfriend, according to court proceedings reported by The Irish Times.

The woman told the emergency domestic violence court at Dolphin House that her relationship ended when she discovered her partner had been having an affair with a man for most of their time together. She said she and her children had maintained a positive relationship with his boyfriend, but after the couple broke up, the situation changed significantly.

She is concerned that her ex is using their daughter to try to “get at, or get back with”, his boyfriend, the woman told Judge Gerard Furlong.

The woman stated that her daughter became upset when informed by her father that his ex-boyfriend no longer wished to see her, despite the girl having previously described their relationship as “excellent.” The ex-boyfriend denied ever making such a statement.

The woman also alleged that her former partner had called her “disgusting” names in relation to allegations made by her daughter against her own partner, driven to her home, and threatened to “kill me and burn me out.” She said she had blocked his number multiple times since their relationship ended.

Judge Gerard Furlong granted the protection order and noted that, as the child’s custodian, the woman could separately seek an order requiring her ex to produce the daughter in court. A custody hearing is pending, the woman added.

The woman said she has not seen her daughter in months, as the child is currently staying with her father. She added that her hands are “tied” until an investigation into the allegations made by her daughter is completed.
