Woman Charged After Hammer Attack at Sydney Hospital

A 46-year-old woman has been charged after allegedly attacking a man with a hammer in his hospital bed at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Camperdown, Sydney.
Emergency services were called to the facility at approximately 12:15 am on Thursday, April 9, 2026, following reports of an assault.
NSW Police identified the suspect as Viki Graham. Police allege that Ms. Graham entered the hospital and struck a 63-year-old man, who was known to her, in the head with a hammer.
The victim suffered serious injuries and remains in a critical condition in the hospital’s intensive care unit.
Police Action and Legal Proceedings
Ms. Graham was arrested at the scene and transported to the Newtown Police Station. She has been charged with wounding a person with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Following her arrest, Ms. Graham was refused bail. She is expected to appear before a bail court on Thursday, April 9, 2026.

Ms. Willcox confirmed that the patient is currently receiving care in the intensive care unit.
Regarding the security of the ward, Ms. Willcox acknowledged that Ms. Graham was granted access to the ward outside of the standard visiting hours.
She noted that hospital staff had spoken with the woman upon her arrival and that no issues were identified at that time. Ms. Willcox described the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital as a very big and busy hospital
while referencing the existing visiting hour protocols.
