Kansas City, Missouri police are investigating the fatal shooting of a woman who was found in a West Waldo neighborhood gas station parking lot early Sunday morning. Officers responding to a medical call found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound outside a Casey’s convenience store, where emergency responders attempted lifesaving measures before she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigation and Crime Scene Response on Wornall Road
According to Kansas City Police Department Sgt. Phil DiMartino, officers responded to the medical call at 1:30 a.m. in the 7900 block of Wornall Road near 79th Street. Kansas City Fire Department emergency medical crews arrived as officers attempted to save the woman’s life, but she succumbed to her injuries at the location. Investigators have blocked off a large area surrounding the convenience store. Authorities stated that it remains unclear whether the shooting occurred directly in the parking lot or if the victim was shot elsewhere before arriving at the location. Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators deployed to the scene to collect evidence and canvas the area for witnesses. “We have a pretty big crime scene here that we have blocked off,” Sgt. Phil DiMartino said. “We’re still very early in this. We just don’t have a lot of information on what happened or what led up to this. Our detectives are looking for any witnesses. Surveillance footage is going to be big on this.”
