Signal Hill, CA – A late-night shooting in Signal Hill has left a woman dead and a community grappling with shock and grief. The incident occurred around 10:14 p.m. Saturday on the 1000 block of East Burnett Street, sending shockwaves through the typically quiet neighborhood.Signal Hill police officers responding to reports of gunshots found the woman suffering from a gunshot wound. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but tragically succumbed to her injuries.

“It’s just awful,” said Lisa Rodriguez,a resident who lives near the scene. “I heard a loud noise around 10:15 p.m., but I thoght it was just fireworks. It wasn’t until the police cars and ambulances started arriving that I realized something serious had happened.”
Rodriguez described a scene of disbelief and concern as neighbors emerged from their homes, whispering and trying to piece together what had transpired.
“Everyone was in shock,” she said. “The police had the whole street blocked off, and there where a lot of officers going in and out of the house where it appears the shooting happened.”
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau is assisting signal Hill police in the ongoing investigation.
“We are actively working to piece together the events that led to this tragic loss of life,” said a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Department. “We urge anyone with information, no matter how small, to come forward and assist us in bringing the responsible party to justice.”
The shooting has shaken the sense of security in Signal Hill, a community known for it’s peaceful atmosphere.
“this is a safe neighborhood, and it’s scary to think that something like this could happen,” Rodriguez said. “I just hope the police can get some answers for the victim’s family.”
