Columbia Women’s Swimming and Diving Team Faces Harvard
The Columbia women’s swimming and diving team traveled to Cambridge for a meet against Harvard on Friday. The Lions lost to the Crimson, with a final score of 206-93.
Head Coach Diana Caskey praised the team’s effort, stating, “Lots of great swims today. Going 1-2 in the 50 and 100 free was a highlight. We had some areas for improvement, but it’s our first away meet, so we will get better!”
Emily MacDonald continued her strong performance this season, winning both the 50 and 100 freestyle events. She clocked in at 23.17 seconds for the 50 free and 50.22 seconds for the 100 free. Sally Ma finished second in both events, timing 23.44 seconds in the 50 free and 51.65 seconds in the 100 free.
Mia Avansino placed second in the 1000 free with a time of 10:20.13. Jilly MacNamara also had an impressive performance, taking second in the 200 back with a time of 2:01.59.
In diving, Valeriya Bondarenko led the Lions on the 3-meter boards with a score of 265.65. Chloe Leung topped the 1-meter boards with a score of 245.70. Head Diving Coach Scott Donie expressed pride in the team’s progress and looks forward to the upcoming Invitational after the break.

Next, the Lions will compete at the ECAC Winter Championships in East Meadow. They will also face the Princeton women at the Big Al Invite in New Jersey.
