Materna⁢ Medical Navigates‍ Marketing Challenges in Women’s Health

‍Updated June 03, 2025

Materna Medical is tackling the difficulties of marketing⁢ sensitive women’s ⁤health products, such as vaginal dilators, ‍amid stringent‌ advertising platform policies. Debbie Donovan, head of commercial operations at Materna ⁣Medical, discussed the⁢ unique challenges of promoting‍ solutions⁤ for⁢ conditions⁣ like vaginal muscle tightness, pelvic organ prolapse,‌ and painful intercourse.

Breaking the silence around these often-stigmatized health issues is crucial, ⁤Donovan ‌said, but it ‌requires overcoming significant hurdles imposed by platforms like Meta and Google. These platforms frequently enough restrict or outright ban advertising for products addressing such sensitive topics.

The ⁢silence surrounding women’s health creates barriers to care,‌ limiting access to vital treatments and ⁢stifling ‍innovation. Materna Medical aims to bring these conversations into the mainstream, ‌despite regulatory‌ and marketing roadblocks, to share their innovative women’s health ⁤solutions with a wider audience.Their primary focus is on women’s health solutions, specifically addressing vaginal muscle tightness‌ and pelvic organ prolapse.

Donovan noted that Meta’s ‌updated guidelines have significantly impacted their advertising efforts. “We were essentially‍ excluded from being able ‍to use their retargeting tools,” she said, resulting in a poor⁣ return on ad ⁣spend. Google also requires careful⁢ messaging to avoid ⁣violating it’s policies.

“It’s a challenge—they don’t care that women are suffering,” Donovan said, regarding the restrictive ‍advertising policies.

Vaginal muscle tightness affects approximately 17% of women at⁣ some⁣ point in their lives, stemming from menopause, childbirth,or cancer treatments. Pelvic organ prolapse, a condition where organs descend from their normal ‍position, impacts about 50% of‌ women by age ⁢65.

What’s next

Materna medical plans to continue seeking innovative ways to reach women in ⁣need, despite the challenges posed ⁢by advertising restrictions. They are also pursuing FDA clearance for a vaginal dilator ⁢designed to prevent injuries ⁣during ⁣childbirth,⁤ perhaps reducing the risk of pelvic organ prolapse ⁢later in life.
