A recent study indicates ⁤that lowering the legal tackle height⁢ in women’s rugby has proven effective in minimizing⁣ head contacts among players. ⁤The research, a world-first of its kind, highlights the positive impact of this ⁢rule change on player safety.

The ⁤study, conducted in ⁤Scotland, examined the effects of altered tackle height regulations in ⁢women’s community rugby. Researchers found ⁢a direct correlation between⁤ the new rules and a reduction in⁢ head-to-head‍ and ⁤head-to-shoulder impacts.

The analysis compared‍ over 11,000 ⁤tackles from the 2022-23 season ⁤(before the rule change) and the 2023-24 season (after implementation). The results showed ⁤a notable shift in tackling techniques.

Experts observed ⁢a 21% decrease in upright ‍tackles and a 34% increase⁣ in players bending at the waist during tackles. This bent-waist technique is recommended to ‍lessen contact with the head and shoulders,⁣ areas prone to ⁣injury.
