Kemp’s Role Key as Hampshire Edges Somerset in Tense Match

Taunton,England-Hampshire narrowly defeated Somerset in a thrilling T20 encounter,with a standout performance from Kemp. Her explosive innings proved crucial in securing the win, despite a valiant effort from Somerset’s Holland.
On a hot day, Hampshire’s opening pair, Maia Bouchier and Charli Knott, started strongly, putting on 80 runs. Bouchier was dismissed for 43 off 26 balls after Chloe Skelton made an impressive catch. Shortly after, Knott, also scoring 43, was caught by Wellington.
Charlie Dean’s bowling then put Somerset under pressure, taking three wickets for 25 runs, including the successive dismissals of Georgia Adams (10) and Rhianna Southby. Abi Norgrove was run out soon after.
Kemp then accelerated the scoring, hitting seven fours and two sixes in her 38-ball innings, guiding Hampshire to a total of 169-6. kemp’s role as a middle-order batter proved vital for Hampshire’s success. Her role helped set a challenging target for Somerset.
Somerset’s chase began poorly, falling to 19-2 within four overs. However, Holland then formed partnerships of 52 with Sophie luff (23) and 63 with Wellington. Holland reached a career-best T20 score of 60 from 53 balls, setting up a tense finish. The role of Holland was to anchor the innings.
Wellington contributed 44 from 25 balls, but was dismissed in the final over, leaving the hosts just short of the target at 164-6.
