New York Times Games Introduces Badges to Reward Players
Overview
The New York Times Games app has launched a new badge system to recognize player achievements across its popular games, including Wordle, Spelling bee, and Connections. These badges are designed to provide a visual record of a player’s accomplishments and participation in the NOW Games ecosystem.
How Badges Work
According to a press release from the New York Times Company, badges are earned through gameplay milestones. Examples include achieving a “wordle” in one attempt, solving the perfect Connections puzzle, or earning a certain number of Pangrams in Spelling Bee. Players can view their collected badges in a dedicated “trophy case” within the app.
The badge system aims to gamify the experience and provide players with a sense of progression and reward. The NOW Games app intends to expand the badge offerings over time.
Exclusive and Seasonal Badges
The New York Times Games plans to introduce “seasonal events and special challenges” that will unlock unique badges tied to holidays or specific puzzles. Subscribers to NOW Games will have access to exclusive badges not available to non-subscribers, adding an extra incentive to subscribe.
Current Availability
As of October 24, 2025, badges are currently available for Wordle, Spelling Bee, and Connections. The New York Times Games has indicated that more badges will be rolled out across its other games in the future, expanding the badge system throughout the NOW Games platform.
