Zaragoza commemorates World AIDS Day with Call for Continued Action
zaragoza, Spain – The city of Zaragoza joined the global community in marking World AIDS Day on Sunday, December 1st, with a poignant ceremony at Parque Bruil. The event, organized by the Aragon Government, the Zaragoza City Council, and organizations dedicated to eradicating HIV, served as a powerful reminder of the ongoing fight against the virus.
The ceremony, held near a plaque installed by the city council to honor the cause, featured a moving manifesto reading by the Fundación Cruz Blanca, representing the diverse group of participating associations.

In 2016, the city signed the Paris Declaration, a global initiative aimed at improving the quality of life for people living with HIV and ultimately ending the AIDS epidemic by 2030. This aspiring goal seeks to achieve the “95-95-95” target: ensuring that 95% of people with HIV are diagnosed, 95% of those diagnosed are receiving treatment, and 95% of those on treatment have an undetectable viral load, rendering the virus untransmittable.
The city’s commitment to HIV prevention and awareness is further demonstrated through the work of its Social Policies department. The department’s Specialized Services unit conducts awareness campaigns and implements health promotion programs through the Young Health Zone and the Municipal Center for Addiction Prevention and Care. These programs focus on prevention, early diagnosis, and timely referral to healthcare services for treatment.
Adding to the day’s events, the Joaquín Roncal center hosted the opening of the “En el sida pintamos todos” (In AIDS We all paint) poster exhibition.
