Infantino Declares World Cup a “Huge Success,” Cites $2 Billion Revenue and 40,000 Average Attendance

Gianni Infantino, the President of FIFA, has hailed the recent World Cup as a “huge, huge, huge success,” brushing aside criticisms regarding attendance and financial viability. Speaking at a press conference, Infantino presented a robust defense of the tournament, emphasizing its unprecedented financial and logistical achievements.
Financial Triumphs and Unmatched Revenue Streams
Despite initial financial projections suggesting the competition would not be viable, infantino revealed that the event generated over $2 billion (£1.48 billion) in revenue.This translates to an average of $33 million per match,a figure Infantino claims is unmatched by any other cup competition globally.
“We heard financially it would not work but I can say we generated over $2bn (£1.48bn) in revenues with this competition,” Infantino stated. “We earned on average $33m per match. there is no other cup competition in the world that comes close to $33m per match. It is already the most accomplished club competition in the world.”
Addressing Attendance Concerns with Solid Numbers
Infantino also tackled concerns about poor attendances at some matches, citing that 2.5 million tickets were sold. This equates to an average attendance of 40,000 per match, a figure he highlighted as extraordinary.
“There is no league in the world with that number, except the Premier league which, of course, has home teams,” he remarked, drawing a comparison to the top English football league.
Trump’s Endorsement Praised
The FIFA President extended his gratitude to former US President Donald Trump for his endorsement of the tournament. Infantino acknowledged Trump’s passion for the sport and the crucial role of government support in organizing such a large-scale event.
“He loves the game,” Infantino said. “You cannot organize a competition like this without the full support of the government. great thanks to president Trump – he has been fantastic and he is attending the final tomorrow as well.”
