Luke Littler Set for World Cup of Darts Debut

Teenage darts sensation Luke Littler is set⁤ to make his World Cup of Darts debut in Leverkusen,Germany.⁤ The international doubles tournament begins Thursday.

Littler will team‍ up with world​ number one Luke Humphries ‍to represent England in the competition. Each player ⁣throws⁢ three darts, alternating throughout each match.

England enters as the defending champions. Humphries secured the title in 2024 alongside former world champion Michael Smith.

Teams consist of the two ⁤highest-ranked players from each⁣ nation, based on the Professional Darts‍ Corporation’s Order of⁢ Merit as of ⁤May 7.

The top⁢ four​ ranked nations—England, ⁢Wales, Scotland,⁢ and Northern Ireland—received a bye directly into the second round, which will feature 16⁢ nations.

Michael van Gerwen⁤ of the Netherlands, ranked No. 3 ⁣globally, chose not⁢ to participate, effectively preventing the Netherlands from advancing directly to the second round.

The remaining 12 spots in the ⁢second round will be ⁢determined by the results of the group stage, where 36 teams will compete. These teams are divided into ‌12 groups of ‍three in a round-robin format, with each group winner advancing.

The top 16 nations ⁣were seeded,⁤ with nations ranked between fifth and 12th placed in separate groups to face‍ two unseeded nations.
