World Cup on the Line: Kim Pang-gon’s Desperate Plea – ‘Who’ll Take the Fall if We Don’t Make It
Ulsan Coach Kim Pang-gon Speaks Out on National Team Coach Controversy
Ulsan professional football coach Kim Pang-gon has made a definitive statement regarding the controversy surrounding the appointment of the national team coach.
Coach Kim Pang-gon’s voice became louder immediately after yesterday’s K-League match, as he expressed frustration over the recent controversy surrounding the appointment of the national team coach.
As the person responsible for the recruitment of Coach Bento in the past, Coach Kim Pang-gon stated that not all national team coach candidates need to be checked, citing Coach Bento as an exception.
“(Coach Bento) was not the candidate we wanted, so we went to ask for verification… I think it’s ridiculous for the national team coach to ask for a PPT from the top level leader, whether domestic or foreign.”

Coach Kim Pang-gon also criticized the Football Association’s inexperienced administration and response, stating that it had caused unnecessary controversy.
“Who will take care of the teamwork that has become a complete mess? In such situations where there are no subordinates, no seniors and younger people, who will form a team in the fastest time… If you persuade the people and the media well with that, then this situation will happen.”

Coach Kim Pang-gon also directed a blow to the key officers of the society, stating that they should reflect on their actions.
“I would like to say a word to the association… I think they should look back at themselves why they removed authority from someone who was still under contract, and why someone within the Football Association made a suggestion and made this decision, making it so difficult for the national team.”

Coach Kim Pang-gon emphasized that now is the time to focus on the World Cup qualifiers.
“The next two games are ‘the day after tomorrow’. By expelling the coach, removing the coach’s power and disbanding the team… Those in politics and those on YouTube be very wise about what we need to do now… to win the World Cup. If you can’t go out, who will take responsibility!”
