World Diabetes Day 2023: Fresenius Medical Care Launches ‘Living Well’ Campaign for Holistic Diabetes and Kidney Care

World Diabetes Day: Understanding Diabetes and Kidney Health

On November 14, Fresenius Medical Care observes World Diabetes Day. The goal is to raise awareness about diabetes and its effects on health. Currently, 537 million people globally are living with diabetes, impacting approximately one in ten adults. This condition may lead to severe health issues, including kidney disease.

Many individuals may not notice the early signs of kidney disease. Symptoms can appear only after a significant loss of kidney function. Patients must stay organized to manage their health while balancing daily activities like work and school.

To help, Fresenius Medical Care introduces the “Living Well” campaign. This campaign offers resources that include expert advice from dietitians, psychologists, and social workers. It aims to clarify common misconceptions about nutrition and mental health related to diabetes.

The campaign shares personal success stories and insights from caregivers. It emphasizes the importance of early detection and understanding Type 2 diabetes risks. Individuals are encouraged to consult their doctors for proper disease management and to address diabetic kidney disease symptoms.

Four practical ways to manage diabetic kidney disease symptoms include:

  1. Monitor Blood Sugar: Regularly check and track blood sugar levels.

  2. Control Blood Pressure: Follow a healthy, low-sodium diet.

  3. Exercise: Engage in regular physical activity.

  4. Manage Stress: Use stress-reduction techniques and avoid smoking.

Taking medications as prescribed and making informed food choices are also critical. Choose high-fiber foods like whole grains and fresh fruits and vegetables.

World Diabetes Day aims to reach over one billion people across 160 countries. This global event occurs every year on November 14. Explore more at worlddiabetesday.org.
