The World padel League (WPL) will return to India with an expanded format, featuring six franchises instead of four. The five-day tournament is scheduled for Aug. 12-16, 2025, at the Nesco Center in mumbai. Organizers aim to capitalize on the growing popularity of padel in India, blending international talent with local players to elevate the sport’s role.
The two new franchises will introduce fresh rivalries and talent to the league. The names of the new teams have not yet been released.
“The growth of padel in India has been a journey to watch out for… Season 3 of the WPL marks a major milestone as we expand the scale of competition and set new benchmarks for the sport,” said Hemali Sharma, co-founder of World Padel League.
Iconik Sports and Events Ltd. manages the WPL with support from the Indian Padel Federation. The league seeks to provide a platform for Indian players to develop their skills alongside international stars. Previous seasons featured players from the World Padel Tour and Premier Padel, including Claudia Fernandez and Jon Sanz.
“When we decided to bring WPL for the Indian audiences early this year, our aim was to scale the league and bring world class action tailored for this rapidly expanding market,” said Krishnan Kannan, promoter, Iconik Sports and Events Ltd.
The August event will likely include men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles matches, culminating in a final. The player roster and franchise details will be revealed progressively.
“The World Padel League has played a crucial role in elevating padel’s visibility in India,” said Sneha Abraham Sehgal, president, Indian Padel Federation.
