World Pride 2025: Washington D.C. Gears Up for Major LGBTQ Celebration Amidst Political Climate

World Pride 2025 will take place in Washington, D.C., from May 17 to June 8, 2025. Organizers report that plans for events are progressing well. They see no issues arising from the U.S. presidential election results.

Activists noted that President-elect Donald Trump may have less supportive views on LGBTQ rights compared to defeated candidate Kamala Harris. However, LGBTQ Republicans highlight that Trump did not oppose Pride events during his presidency. He nominated Scott Bessent, an openly gay man, for Treasury Secretary, which would make him the highest-ranking openly gay government official in U.S. history if confirmed.

The Capital Pride Alliance is leading the organization of World Pride 2025. They anticipate two million visitors will attend, generating over $780 million for the local economy. Ryan Bos, executive director of Capital Pride, confirmed that they are submitting permit applications to use the National Mall for events.

Mike Litterst, a spokesperson for the National Park Service, stated that permit approval depends on resource preservation and safety, not the event’s message.

Some people, including those from Europe, expressed concerns about visiting D.C. after Trump’s election. However, these comments have since been removed from social media platforms. Local government officials in D.C. remain supportive of the LGBTQ community and World Pride.
