WPP’s Andrew Scott to Retire, Ushering in New Era Under Cindy Rose
London, August 31st – WPP, the global advertising and marketing giant, is preparing for a significant leadership transition as Chief Operating Officer Andrew Scott announces his retirement at the end of the year. scott’s departure marks the end of a 27-year tenure with the company, during which he played a pivotal role in shaping WPP’s operational structure and driving strategic acquisitions.
Scott joined WPP in 1999 as Director of Corporate Growth and ascended to the role of COO in 2018. His contributions include spearheading key acquisitions such as AI technology company Satalia and data solutions provider InfoSum, bolstering WPP’s capabilities in these critical areas. He also played a crucial role in the sale of 60% of Kantar to Bain Capital and the subsequent sale of FGS global to KKR.He was named to the board in 2023.
“after 27 years at WPP, and at a time of transition for the business, it feels like the right moment to make this change,” Scott stated. He will transition into a senior advisory role, supporting senior executives and aiding in strategy execution, ensuring a smooth handover as incoming CEO Cindy Rose takes the helm.
Rose, formerly Microsoft’s Chief Operating Officer for global enterprise, was named WPP’s next CEO in July and will officially step into the role on September 1st. She has been a WPP board member since 2018. In a recent address to WPP staff, Rose expressed her enthusiasm for the company, stating, “You could say I’ve been a mega-fan of WPP for more than 15 years now.”
Outgoing CEO Mark Read, who announced his departure in June after seven years in the top spot and three decades with WPP, lauded Scott’s contributions. “Few people have done more than Andrew to shape WPP and to drive its success over the last three decades,” Read said. “He has been a brilliant partner to me and the wider leadership team throughout and has made a tremendous contribution to WPP in his most recent role as chief operating officer.” Read will also stay on as an advisor to support the transition through the end of the year.
