OTTAWA (AP) — Wrestling Canada Fight (WCL) has appointed three leaders to guide‌ its age-group national teams as the association develops and executes its​ 2025 program.⁣ The appointments aim ​to bolster international competitiveness and expand opportunities‍ for Canadian wrestlers.

New Leadership ‍Appointments

owen Dawkins, of Edmonton, Alberta, and the Edmonton Wrestling Club, will head the under-23 team. Shane Bradley of Saskatoon, saskatchewan, a member of‌ the Saskatoon Wrestling Club, will⁣ lead the ⁣under-20 squad. Frank Mensah, representing Surrey, British Columbia, and Coast Wrestling Academy, will manage the⁣ under-17 team.

Chris Woodcroft, WCL’s director of high performance,⁣ emphasized the experience and dedication each leader brings ⁣to their respective age groups. “Each of our ⁢managers⁣ brings ‍a wealth⁢ of experience and expertise,”‌ Woodcroft saeid. “Thay all have‍ a passion for progress, are extremely cooperative, ⁢and have the firm will to offer⁤ many national and⁤ international opportunities to⁣ athletes.”

Focus on Development ‍and International Exposure

The newly appointed managers will collaborate with WCL’s High Performance Department and the⁣ integrated Support team. Their‍ focus will be on achieving the objectives ‌of the NextGen and Enhanced ⁤Excellence programs.‍ Key responsibilities ‍include implementing training and competition ⁢programs,⁢ analyzing ⁢athlete performance,​ identifying new international competition opportunities, and​ supervising teams at ‌international events.

According to WCL, a primary goal is to address ⁤gaps in international experience ⁢for Canadian wrestlers.The managers ⁢will⁤ seek to expand international opportunities beyond the top-ranked athletes, aiming ‌to ⁤provide​ more wrestlers with⁤ valuable experience on the global ‌stage.

Leaders ‌Express Enthusiasm

Dawkins expressed his enthusiasm for his new role. “I​ am really‌ honored and keen about having the opportunity to lead our national team under⁢ 23,” Dawkins⁤ said. ​”Representing our country at this level is a privilege and responsibility that I ⁤do not take lightly. Together, we will build a culture of ‌belief, responsibility, and pride in wearing the ⁢colors of ⁣Canada.”

Bradley echoed this sentiment, stating, “I can’t wait to bring⁤ my ⁣enthusiasm, my experience, my desire‍ to succeed, ​and my commitment to excellence to WCL‍ as manager of the under-20 ⁢program. Mensah added, “It is an honor to guide the new ⁤generation towards the future and an opportunity to collaborate with ⁤coaches from all⁤ over the country to create a community of champions.”

Qualifications and Experience

All three coaches hold certification at the competition-development level of the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) ⁤or higher, including Level 4, 5, or advanced ⁣coaching ‍diplomas. Each has prior experience working with WCL national teams at the international level and will begin ⁢working with ​their ‌respective teams ⁢immediately, aligning with the start of the international calendar.
