After 16 years and over 1,600 interviews, Marc Maron is bringing his podcast, “WTF with Marc Maron,” to an end this fall. Maron discussed his decision with Jimmy Fallon on “The Tonight Show,” citing a need‌ for ‍some downtime.

Maron, along with his ⁤producer ⁣Brendan‍ McDonald, launched “WTF” in 2009, pioneering the celebrity podcast format. He told Fallon that he and McDonald felt it‌ was time to “enjoy some free time.”

Earlier in‍ June, during an episode with John Mulaney, maron mentioned that he and his team were “tired” but “utterly satisfied” with their work on‍ the⁣ podcast. In the‍ early‌ days, Maron recalled, many in the ‍entertainment industry⁣ were puzzled by his ⁤decision‍ to record a podcast in his garage.

He acknowledged the parasocial relationships he developed with listeners over the years. “I know there were a lot of ⁣people depending on me to keep their ⁤sanity, and now they’re just going to be nuts,” Maron said.
