WWE SummerSlam News: Triple H, Hogan Tribute
SummerSlam Poised for Two-Night Expansion as WWE Sees Success in Destination Events
WWE’s Senior Vice President of Live Events, Paul “Triple H” Levesque, has revealed that the company is eyeing a two-night format for SummerSlam, citing the overwhelming success of similar multi-day WrestleManias. Speaking to WFAN, Levesque expressed confidence in the demand for an expanded SummerSlam, noting that business for the upcoming event is “going incredibly well.”
summerslam: The Next Destination Event
Levesque drew a direct parallel between the appeal of a two-night WrestleMania and the potential for SummerSlam. “It creates a destination event,” he explained. “So if you are a WWE fan, if you’re a sports entertainment fan, man, it’s the ultimate. You come in, you’re there for that whole weekend and everything you do, everything you see, when we say we come in and we take over, that New York, New Jersey area will just be WWE central.”
He further elaborated on the fan experience, stating, “And if you’re a fan, there’s nothing like it. It’s going to Disney for pro wrestling. It’s worked for us at WrestleMania, it’ll work for us at SummerSlam. It’s going incredibly well. You know, the business is there, so let’s take it.”
This strategic shift towards multi-night events aims to capitalize on fan enthusiasm and create a more immersive, weekend-long experience. The success of this model at WrestleMania has clearly paved the way for its consideration for other major WWE Premium Live Events. In fact, SummerSlam is already slated to be a two-night affair in 2026, with the show scheduled to take place at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minnesota.
Honoring Hulk Hogan: A Delicate Balance
The conversation also touched upon the recent passing of wrestling icon Hulk Hogan. WWE has already honored Hogan with 10-bell salutes on SmackDown, Raw, and NXT. When asked by WFAN about further tributes planned for SummerSlam, Levesque acknowledged the ongoing discussions.
“We’re working through the show now,” levesque responded. “And it comes down to finding the right mix - and I think you just mentioned it a second ago as I was getting mic’d up here, right? Like, what is the right level of respect?”
He emphasized Hogan’s monumental impact on the industry, stating, “Obviously you cannot tribute enough as his accomplishments in WWE or in wrestling in general – I mean, you could make the argument that none of us would be here in this industry without him, the rise of Hulk Hogan in the 80s, really catapulting the business to another level.”
Though, Levesque also addressed the complexities surrounding Hogan’s legacy. “So,you know – but there’s not without its controversy. So we want to be aware of that and we’re making those decisions in real time, I think just like everybody else is.” This indicates a thoughtful approach to honoring Hogan’s contributions while remaining mindful of his controversial aspects, ensuring any tribute is handled with appropriate sensitivity and consideration.
