Stratton Retains at SummerSlam 2025
Tiffany Stratton successfully defended her WWE Women’s Championship against Jade Cargill at SummerSlam 2025 on August 16th. Despite some fan criticism regarding the match’s brevity, Stratton emerged victorious after a competitive seven-minute contest.
The match, held on the first night of the annual event, saw stratton withstand a strong challenge from Cargill, who many expected could dethrone the champion. Stratton’s win continues her reign, which began earlier this year when she cashed in her Money in the Bank briefcase on Nia Jax in January.
Addressing the Criticism: A Matter of Storytelling
Speaking on The Babyfaces podcast, Stratton directly addressed concerns about the match length. She explained that, given the relatively new nature of the rivalry with Cargill, a lengthy, drawn-out encounter wasn’t necessary to deliver a compelling contest.
“I feel like we didn’t have this like insane life or death story going into SummerSlam, so I didn’t really feel like we needed – like you said – an insane 40-minute long match,” Stratton stated. “I thought it was a very competitive match, it was very fast. And I think that’s all we really needed. So I’m actually really pleased with how my match went at SummerSlam with Jade Cargill.”
stratton emphasized that the fast-paced nature of the match suited the storyline and provided a satisfying outcome for both competitors and the audience.
First SummerSlam Nerves and Future aspirations
Stratton also revealed the significant pressure she felt heading into SummerSlam, marking her debut appearance at the event. “Going into SummerSlam, I was so nervous. It was my first SummerSlam ever,” she admitted. “So that alone was just so nerve-wracking. But, thankfully, I pulled through and I beat Little Miss Jade Cargill.”
Looking ahead, Stratton has her sights set on facing some of WWE’s biggest stars. During the podcast appearance, she named Rhea Ripley and Becky Lynch as dream opponents, hinting at potential future clashes that could elevate the women’s division even further.
