Wyoming PBS Hosts ‘Miner’s Light’ Screening on Coal Miners’ Mental Health Challenges
Documentary Screening on Mental Health Challenges for Coal Miners
Wyoming PBS will host a documentary screening at Gillette College on December 5 at 6 p.m. The event will feature “Miner’s Light,” part of the award-winning “A State of Mind” series. This documentary addresses mental health issues affecting coal miners in northeast Wyoming.
The screening is free and open to the public. It is held in partnership with Gillette College Counseling Services. The event aims to promote discussions about mental health within the community.
“Miner’s Light” highlights the mental health crisis among coal miners in the Powder River Basin. It shows how coal mines, employees, and therapists are working together to improve mental health resources in the area.
Refreshments will be available at 5:30 p.m. before the screening. A panel discussion will follow the film. The panel will include individuals featured in the documentary and local healthcare providers. They will discuss the issues miners face and share strategies to support their mental health.
Judd Rogers, executive director of Wyoming PBS Foundation, expressed the importance of this topic, especially in mining, where workers often face emotional challenges. He hopes the event will encourage understanding and dialogue about supporting these vital community members.
