Wyoming’s First Mile-Long Horse Racing Track Set to Open in 2025
Wyoming will open its first mile-long horse racing track at Thunder Plains Park in 2025. This new track will bring high-quality racing and boost the economy in Laramie County. Its inaugural race day is set for August 1, 2025, with additional races on several dates. The track is conveniently located 10 miles east of Cheyenne along I-80, making it accessible to fans from neighboring states and local areas.
Ryan Clement, the managing partner at Thunder Plains, expressed pride in this development. He believes this track will benefit the Wyoming horse racing industry and create jobs and tourism revenue. The track has partnered with 1/ST, a leading Thoroughbred racing company known for safety. They aim to implement high standards for horse care and safety.
The racetrack will be a mile long and 80 feet wide, which enhances the safety of horses and riders. The design has been developed with the input of Dennis Moore, a track surface specialist.
