AIFF Statement Clarifies Hoax Applications
In a statement released on Saturday, the AIFF addressed the circulating claims, which had gained important traction in both indian and Spanish media earlier in the week. reports had suggested that India’s technical director, Subrata Paul, had acknowledged Xavi’s interest in the role. However, the AIFF’s official communication firmly refuted these assertions, stating, “AIFF received an email furnishing the applications from Spanish coaches Pep Guardiola and Xavi Hernandez. The authenticity of their applications could not be confirmed, and it has as emerged that the email applications were not genuine.”
This clarification comes after the AIFF publicly advertised the vacancy following the resignation of Catalan coach Manolo marquez in May. Marquez stepped down from his position to dedicate his focus to his club commitments with FC Goa.
